This month we are going to listen to two young Americans, Paul and Nick, who are talking about tattoos. Listen to the conversation and answer these questions:
1. According to the speakers, what is bad about having tattoos?
2. Where does one of the speakers have a tattoo? Why does he have it there?
Paul: I was watching TV the other day, and this guy had his entire body covered with tattoos.
Nick: That’s pretty disgusting to me.
Paul: But if you want to get a tattoo that says your woman’s name on your arm I could kind of see that.
Nick: I agree with you, but the entire body thing just doesn’t do it for me.
Paul: Yeah, and I’ve heard they hurt like shit.
Nick: (Laughs) Yeah, they hurt pretty bad.
Paul: And especially if you want ‘em, get them removed it’s about $2,000; whereas if you wanna get one put on it’s maybe sixty.
Nick: Yeah, I paid sixty for mine, but I have no intentions of getting it removed.
Paul: When did you get yours?
Nick: Er, about a year ago and it did hurt like shit.
Paul: So, do you still like it?
Nick: Er, yeah I like it. It’s, it’s personal to me, so.
Paul: So, where is it?
Nick: Oh, in the middle of my back.
Paul: That’s not a bad place. At least you don’t have to look at it.
Nick: That is true, and its good for business because my employer can’t see ‘em.
Paul: It’s not like having your whole arm tattooed.
Nick: I know, or your leg or your face, or something stupid like that.
Paul: Yeah, the people with the tattoos on their face. What are they thinking?
Nick: No kidding, man.
Paul: I don’t think I’ll ever get a tattoo.
